Goals As Cornerstones of Subjective Well-being: Linking Individuals and Cultures

Abstract
Oishi demonstrates that feelings of autonomy are correlated with well-being in individualistic cultures, but not in collectivistic cultures. Oishi finds that positive social relationships, however, are equally important in both collectivistic and individualistic cultures, suggesting the idea that some variables may be universally related to the experience of well-being.
