Abstract
In this lecture, I want to develop the notion of rights in a manner which may prove helpful to economists. I want to discuss these matters in a language economists are used to, and I want to argue in favor of an ethical conception of life which is more pluralist in reach. This pluralist conception of a person’s good, I shall call well-being. I shall also present some crude data to get a sense of the distribution of well-being amongst the world’s poorest countries in 1970.
