Abstract
The author examines languages in Kenya by looking at linguistic proficiency, language use patterns, and attitudes among educated speakers of a mother tongue (Luo, Kikuyu, Suba, etc.). Also taken into account are the national language (Kiswahili), and the official language (English). All findings are based on a survey of secondary schools, teacher training colleges, and universities.
