Abstract
Four articles by Fred Riggs, Thomas Hall, Jonathan Friedman and Majid Tehranian address the relationships among state, ethnicity and globalization. The texts demonstrate the strength of long-term historical models in examining transformations of the state and ethnic identity as well as explaining the cultural and political implications of transnational movements, migration and ethnic conflicts. The authors also discussed issues related to the formation of the state and the world system and ethnic conflicts arising from the creation of contemporary ethnicity.
