Gendered States: Rethinking Culture as a Site of South Asian Human Rights Work
Author(s)Visweswaran, Kamala
AbstractUsing static and patriarchal interpretations of culture, examination of recent critiques in feminist theory is done to establish a basis for intervention or advocacy in the reporting of gender-based asylum cases and human rights in South Asia. The necessity for taking into account the role a particular political system plays in the denial of women’s rights and of being aware of the interface between culture and the political system is emphasized.
