Europe Against Islam: Islam in Europe
Author(s)Asad, Talal
AbstractThe religious violence associated with Islam as zealously reported by the Western media has given rise to perceptions that the religion is a major threat to modernity and the principles of tolerance and democracy. The West, especially Europe, should construct multiple modernities that accommodate religion as a basis for identity. The region’s institutions and ideologies should accept and adjust to a European modernity that has culturally diverse immigrants as an integral part, with each tradition challenging and enriching others.
