Globalisation and US Prison Growth: From Military Keynesianism to Post-Keynesian Militarism

Abstract
The expansion of prisons in California is best understood in the context of globalization. Prison expansion represents a geographical solution to social and economic problems, reflecting complexities and contradictions of globalization. The year 1968 can be seen as a turning point from the military Keynesian of the welfare state based on wartime profits to post-Keynesian militarism reflected in the moral panic of ‘law and order’ proponents and the consequent growth of prison populations.
