The Myth of Benign Group Identity: A Critique of Liberal Nationalism

AbstractSome political theorists argue that a healthy national identity is desirable if its form is specified and limits on its expression are set. However, nationalism, whether liberal or conservative will always encourage violence. Even if the ideals are not violent in nature, nationalism inherently makes violence likely.
