A Future for Socialism
Author(s)Roemer, John E.
AbstractObituaries for socialism in the wake of the Soviet Union’s collapse are premature and do not consider mechanisms that could make it more viable. Even such capitalist systems as the US’s use a variety of non-market mechanisms to function better. Market socialism can apply many of those techniques, or variations of them, to produce an even better economic system than capitalism. Most notably it could improve and greatly expand income redistribution and give the public more ownership of corporations.
