Author(s)NGOs of the Border Encuentro
AbstractThis report summarizes the dialogue which took place among NGO’s on the interrelated topics of globalization, migration and militarization. The participants described the various consequences of globalization, such as repression and the weakening of democratic institutions, as well as exacerbating the migration problem by limiting the free flow of labor and the creation of a militarized society. The participants also described the advantages of globalization, and outlines measures by which to make better use of it and to meet its challenges. Particular attention is paid to problems facing migrants, and the responsibility of governments to protect their human rights. An analysis of the corresponding causes and consequences of militarization follows.
