Abstract
The adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in 1979 was one of the major achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women (1976-85).The purpose of this article is to fill some of the informational void about CEDAW by reviewing its work, to identify the major problems and challenges facing the Committee, and to suggest ways in which it can be more effective.
