Human Nature and Politics
Author(s)Cumming, Robert Denoon
AbstractHere Cumming identifies Mill’s adjustments in relation to his predecessors, thus shedding light on the historic adjustment and the moralistic adjustment. Much of the history of philosophical thought has been political in the sense that adjustment and stabilization of the relations between the subject-matter and others was necessary. This discussion relates the stance Mill took toward the developments in America and his interpretation of the utilitarianism of Bentham.
