Knowledge and truth can only be understood in the context of the political and social structures within which they find expression. Michel Foucault analyzed the relationship between knowledge, truth, and power. He found established domains of power produce the basis for philosophical discourse on knowledge and truth, and benefit from the discourse. Tools for this discourse have been developed by philosophers, sociologists, writers and artists dating from the 16th century. The analysis of regimes of truth has become a political problem for the intellectual: to conceptualize a new politics of truth.
