Citizenship: Towards a Feminist Synthesis
Author(s)Lister, Ruth
AbstractIt can be argued that a feminist theory and politics of citizenship must include an internationalist agenda, as citizenship has the power to exclude both those within and those outside the nation state. There are still many tensions which serve to deny women access to full citizenship. A gender-based analysis of citizenship must look at the wider context of difference, investigating the divisions and inequalities created by difference. An alternative concept of citizenship would seek to reconcile the universalism on which citizenship is based with the demands of a politics of difference.
