Parks, People and Power: The Shifting Terrain of Environmentalism
Author(s)Keck, Margaret E.
AbstractThe environmentalist movement has gained a new awareness of issues which should be addressed in Latin America. This region’s environmental problems exist within a different political and social context from the problems encountered in North American communities. Thus, Latin American governments will have to resolve social needs such as poverty and minority land rights as part of their efforts to safeguard their natural resources. The solutions offered by industrialized nations should recognize the fact that behavior modification is inadequate and economic interests dominate environmental policy.
