Appropriate Technology for Human Waste Management in Developing Countries
Author(s)Ludwig, H. F.; Setamanit, Surin; Kelly, John
AbstractMunicipal sewerage technology in developing countries must be modified from Western standards to avoid gross waste. Cost-effective urban excreta management applicable to developing countries entails the making of feasibility studies emphasizing operation and maintenance costs. Waste disposal should also be evaluated so as not to favor affluent areas only. The designs for sewerage systems should be standardized by the government so that skills training and the procurement of parts can be facilitated.
