Institutional Foundations for a Just Society
Author(s)Ho, Lok Sang
AbstractJustice in a society was analyzed according to its institutional design. The Harsanyian-Rawlsian, ex ante, concept of justice has been applied in formulating institutional principles. Eight principles were drawn up which experts believe would contribute to fairness, rationality and avoiding economic risks. These principles, however, should satisfy the need of the people for autonomy unlike one which describes equal opportunity. This principle would require the government to offer social welfare services, which is in contradiction to the idea of autonomy.
