Urban Policy in Ethnically Polarized Societies
Author(s)Bollens, Scott A.
AbstractThe effects of public policy in polarized cities such as Jerusalem, Belfast and Johannesburg and the impact of urban strategies on the magnitude and manifestations of ethnonational conflict are studied using an integrative analytic approach. The research revealed that dialectics, contradictions, and unforeseen consequences are developed when nationalism intersects with an urban system. Thus, urban policy strategies should promote coexistent viability of the antagonistic sides to resolve ethnic conflict.
