Abstract
The hearthhold, also known as the fayannde, is a female-headed or women centered unit of Fulbe pastoralists. It plays an important social and economic role in central Mali. The roles and tasks of women, as well as the importance of the hearthhold, present insight into Fulbe’s social organization, which is not often discussed in Fulbe literature.
