The Role of Social Science
Author(s)Myrdal, Gunnar
AbstractEducation sponsored, directed and financed by the State and other formal institutions may partly and for a time give support to opportunist and false beliefs. However, more generally and in the longer view, education is a force correcting these beliefs. Behind education, providing a spur to its long-range trend towards rationalism, is social science. Myrdal explores the tradition of social science, concluding that the problem today is that too many social scientists are addressing only each other – current social science work needs to be integrated into education.
