A study of the influence of positivistic philosophies in the social sciences. The author distinguishes two main ways in which “positivism” may be taken; one which quite specifically refers to writers who referred to themselves in this light, and the other which generally refers to writers who have adopted most, if not all, of a series of connected perspectives.
