Abstract
The creation of group identity through linguistic strategies and the role of family members in constructing the family identity are investigated in a study, together with the concept of political socialization being multidirectional in the family context. The study considers how a family uses language to collaboratively create one aspect of their shared family identity — as Democrats and supporters of Al Gore — through conversations they taped during the week of the 2000 presidential elections.
