Abstract
The intricate levels of kinship intrinsic to the Asante or Ashanti help them navigate social, economic and political uncertainty in Ghana. Their ability to negotiate familial ties that transcend biological lineages provide security and stability, articulated through mutual assistance, independence, responsibility and reciprocation. The Ashanti are therefore able to rely on their culture to buffer pronounced changes.
