Abstract
This article approaches fictional television programming as hegemonic rhetoric and examines how television can be seemingly progressive but substantially conservative in its construction of reality. Particularly, affirmation of traditional views of family, patriarchy, and gender roles is analyzed in terms of the series thirtysomething.
