Abstract
The language and arguments of the organized opposition to pay equity reform have been analyzed to provide a clear understanding of the gendered basis of contemporary economic restructuring in a new era of flexibility in the US. Focus has also been given on the relationship between changes in the political economy and transitions in culture and ideology. Women’s economic roles have been perceived as a point of contradiction among pay equity opponents. However, there are strategies that can bring labor and feminist discourse into harmony as exemplified by the new living wage movement.
