University Education, Party Seniority, and Elite Recruitment in China

AbstractAbstract: This article examines the influence of higher education and membership status in the Chinese Communist Party on social mobility and elite recruitment in China. Findings from an analysis of Chinese government officials indicate that both political loyalty and educational credentials are key factors in leadership selection in the Chinese government system.
