Abstract
Critical analysis of theoretical assumptions underlying international policies on children’s rights, as presented in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), with implications for contemporary human rights policy. National sovereignty and individual self-determination; conceptions of children and childhood; moral capacity of adults, and Western social and political bias towards developing countries; some focus on Article 39 of the Convention, addressing psycho-social intervention on behalf of children’s well-being.
