Abstract
Nationalistic attitudes are waning in Western Europe, and the trend is strongest among the young. Indicators of the decline of nationalism include low levels of national pride, lack of confidence in the army, unwillingness to fight for one’s country, a feeling of trust in neighboring countries and a rise in European consciousness. Higher educational levels are associated with less nationalistic attitudes. One factor contributing to the erosion of nationalism is individualism.
