The Falun Gong in China: A Sociological Perspective

AbstractThe sociological perspective on the rise of and crackdown of the falun gong (FLG) in relation to the social, cultural and political context of China is explained. The popularity of the FLG accord with various sociological explanations for the emergence of non religious movements in Euro-American contexts and the FLG shows the inadequacy of applying Euro-American sociological theories to non Euro-American context.
