Abstract
Islamic scholars in Turkey contrast their theories of economic development with the politics and economics of the postmodernist West. Ali Bulac describes the modern state as oppressive in its regulation of every aspect of human life. He proclaims that in Islam God’s will is directed toward the community rather than the state. Islamists have tried to take over the government of Turkey by gradually pushing Islamic principles.
