Abstract
Keval J. Kumar looks at the development transitions taking place in Pakistan and India within the framework of ‘network societies’. He suggests there are different levels of society among rural areas, the small towns and cities and the highly industrialized and populated cities and metros. For him it is only the last who are part of the global ‘network society’, raising worrying questions about deep national divisions, particularly in view of the geo-political pressures post-September 11th, 2001.
