Third World in Caricature
Author(s)Hellinger, Daniel
AbstractEditorial cartoons and reporting about Third World figures and events must avoid stereotyped portrayals that can evoke racial and ideological prejudices in the West. Western media often distort images of the Third World in their cartoons and sometimes present Third World cultures and values as inferior to the western civilization and the people of developing nations as unfit for democracy. Editors and publishers should ensure that the caricatures they publish reflect balanced judgment and objectivity regarding Third World issues.
